We, the American people, have been sold out.  We are taxed on everything, income, purchases, property, to name just a few.  We pay fees and taxes on things like license plates for our cars, so we can go to work and make money to pay more taxes, WTF!  All this got me thinking, which pissed me off,  our nation is over 14 Trillion dollars in debt!  How did we, as a nation, get here?  Our highways are in constant need of repair, our bridges are aging and in need of repair or replacement, our education system has been pathetic all my life and millions of our fellow Americans are struggling to support themselves.  Many have, sadly,  given up.

Too make matters worse, most U.S. states have huge debts, as do cities and municipalities.  We pay taxes and fees to them as well.  With all this debt by all the governments, and their unfunded promises, where did all our money go?!   Let me try to answer that.  Let’s begin with politicians, most of whom are lifers, have pocketed huge wealth while, supposedly, serving their constituents.  Then there is big business and the overpaid executives and CEO’s.  Many of these execs have packed up our factories and moved them out of the country.  We still buy their products, why I don’t know.

Yes, we have been sold out, but not by who you think!  Unfortunately, we sold ourselves out.  You don’t think so?  Answer these questions.  In the last three decades, have you been actively following our governments decisions?  Does your vehicle have a Made in America stamp on it?  In your home, what do you have the most of, imported items, or items made here at home?  How about the clothes you are wearing?  Did you buy a Hershey’s product lately? 

Just simple questions, and the answers are telling.  Few Americans have strived to purchase American made products,  and most don’t even look at where the product was made.  We, the people, are to blame for our current troubles and whatever troubles befront us in the future. 

Our country’s economic situation is very poor, so poor I feel, that I have taken actions to protect myself and family from the turmoil that may come in the near future.  Everybody must face the fact that our governments are broke, they cannot sustain future actions payed for with more debt.  The 536 idiots in D.C. can’t seem to grasp it.  State governments aren’t doing much better, but at least they are, for the most part, acknowledging that there are big problems.  At some point, businesses will stop accepting cards funded by State and Federal governments.  That means, welfare cards, food assistance cards and the like, will be worthless.  What do you think will happen then?

We the people, have been irresponsible!  We’ve let government grow to big, build too much debt and pass laws that are draconian and oppressive.  Our police departments are becoming brutal, and assaulting citizens on a regular basis.  Even with this knowledge, we chug along, keeping our collective heads in the sand. 

 My reading of history convinces me that most bad  government results from too much government.     Thomas Jefferson

The sheeple are in the pen and the gate is almost closed.  Once it’s closed, the reality that we didn’t just sell ourselves out, but we sold out our kids and grandkids as well.  We failed to keep the freedoms bestowed upon us when this nation was founded.  

These words should be read and remembered, as they are my answer to our current problems:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.

    Well . . . I have been saying this for decades, only to have the sound of my words fall on deaf ears and blind eyes. What has deafened and blinded them? Greed. Nothing but GREED.

      Greed, along with being divided in so many ways it’s hard to count. Those who give up a little freedom for alittle security, deserve niether security or freedom. If people don’t put aside their differences and come together, they deserve what they get. 👿

    Yep, I agree whole heartedly with both of you & I agree with your article as well. Another great article G. Now, they say, they’re going to have to watch the spending. A little late for that now, isn’t it. Yes, I’m guilty of not really looking at where things are made, but will from now on. I hope my car was in made in the U.S. , guess I’ll have to go look & see. Greed, I think that’s putting it mildly really, & yes, we’re so divided , it’s tearing this country apart at the seems. I keep remembering what Reagan said. GOVERNMENT IS NOT THE SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM, GOVERNMENT IS THE PROBLEM. The people anymore for what I see, not all, but a lot, are like mind numbing robots & follow the pied piper in everything he & they say. I think it’s only a matter of time before it happens here like what’s happened in all those other countries.

      The masses are kept at bay with constant distrations. If their not fighting in the left/right paradigm, their watching American Idle and eating Doritos.

    How can you buy goods made in your country when the politicians have signed all sorts of trade treaties (GATT etc) and made sure that companies suffer in their home countries but get cheap labour, lower taxes and government bailouts/financial assistance for moving costs and any losses over a ten-year period if they move production to a ‘developing country’.

    Since most people are suffering fnancially too, unemployment, rising taxes – then who can blame them for buyng cheap goods made by slave labour. The whole system is corrupt, you only have to see who is making money at the expense of everyone else to see who is responsible for this mess – the bankers. And the politicians are bought and sold like any other commodity.

      Can’t argue with the points you make. It’s always easier to indentify the problems than it is the solutions. For every problem, there is a solution. This problem is enormous, which requires an equally enormous solution. But it takes getting the message out, educate, and bring people together with a single cause. It’s nice to see our friends from the UK acknowledge the mess we have here. Any suggestions on a solution?

    We can’t just blame the politicians. While they have a large share of the blame, that is because they are not interested in freedom for people. It’s worsened by the segment of our population who believe we are responsible for our brother and must care for him as well. Their way to accomplish such a task is through government – controlling, regulating, and institutionalizing society to be what that way. People – as individuals – can’t be trusted to do what is “right” and so government must compel them to do so.

    In their view there are no individual, inherent rights and government will grant you – or prohibit to you – any rights you are deemed worthy enough to have. But, no matter what the right it can not stand above the right of government to control your very existence, from birth (since prior to birth humans don’t exist – just a collection of tissues that can be removed with no more concern that popping a pimple) – through death (because even when you die you owe society for the life you lived).

    These people (commonly known today as progressives, liberals, Democrats, the left) are a stain on individualism, on prosperity, self-esteem, self-discipline, self-reliance, and self-respect. They prefer you to be taught to demand government and society suckle you, to be nurtured to always expect that someone “owes” you, and should provide it to you because you are, and have become, incapable of gaining it on your own and that’s not fair.

    There is no reason to suspect that this particular course of behavior will change as society continues “advancing” itself. There will never be change until society collapses and this nation endures the second civil war that awaits us in a major collapse.

    Those currently in opposition to the way our nation, government and society function will just have to continue to hold to what freedom they can carve out of a society sick with the cancer of oppressive government. It may never happen. Society may succumb completely to being a “collective” lifestyle – devoid of freedom and individualism. It’s a coin toss, but at the moment those who would stand for true freedom are in a minority that hasn’t the power to “force” change – one way or another.

    My apologies and I’ll step off my soapbox now.

    just to give one example that u are speaking of is the stimulus plan they had for automobiles, trade in your vehicle and get 4500 min. trade in following certain criteria on the puchase of a new vehicle, first, it should have been stipulated that it had to be from an american car company, after all we were the ones funding it and the ones being bailed out, second, all the trade ins were destroyed, sent where? exactly out of the country, why, gee cuz they shut pittsburg down thats why. now how many people bought a foreign car, and further, how many of those people could have afforded to leave the stimulus for someone that maybe needed it. good ole’ american greed, in its most primitive form, our govt. is to blame for allowing this to go on, our people are to blame for following the govt. on this, the trade ins should have been ( if worthy) donated and passed out to the less fortunate, i saw some of these vehicles being traded in, they could have taken it one step further and gotten real junk off the road and let those people have the same 4500 in valued vehicle, makes sense to me, lets get it together and all of us work together, speak and act our minds rather than following because its easier,,, just sayin, thanks g for the inspiration

      The govt. trade-in was nothing more than the Progressive tactit at turning peoples attention in a different direction. Look back in time and see what was being discussed in Congress when this took place. You will see the distraction!

        oh yea, they were fixing to give aig and so on all those funds, among other things im sure i dont know about,,, but that doesnt excuse the people and their greed caring not about the recovery and more about themselves, why buy american when i dont have to and it does nothing for me directly, thats the mindset,,,

    And, don’t forget about trading in your appliances for more efficient ones as well. Another bust as far as I can see. And, buying houses, then not being able to afford the payments. Yeah, that all went over really good, didn’t it.

      Things are very good here. Looking forward to putting in the garden! Deer hunting was good, and we’re raising a pig at our neighbors farm, it will be ready for the freezer in May. We keep making brandy, to have a good stock, and the shelves are full of homecanned veggies, venison and applesauce. I’ll E-mail with some other details that are not discussable here.
